Madagascar

First Edition
Éditions Jean-Luc Allègre (1997).
Hardcover Book

A profile of Madagascar consisting mainly of the colour photographs of Reunion resident Jean-Luc Allègre. The images, of which there are approximately sixty, are set in context by Geoffroy Mohrain's accompanying descriptions.

Text from the Back Cover

About the Author (from the Back Cover)

Text from the Back Cover (English Translation)

A fragment resulting from continental drift anchored off the east African coast, Madagascar is a land of contrasts unique in the world. The diversity of its landscapes and its people is equalled only by the strangeness of its flora and fauna.

At times Asian, at others African, this Great Island alternates arid savannas and virgin forests, luminous lagoons and forbidding mountains... The slit-eyed tribes of the Highlands and the dark-skinned tribes of the coastal regions, the lemurs and the chameleons, the giant baobabs and the wild orchids form a strange mosaic there.
