Banknote
A Malagasy banknote issued by Banky Foiben'i Madagasikara to the value of 1,000 Ariary. On the front is depicted a Malagasy woman with a child on her back, and on the reverse a school, stone Independence monument, open book and a Marxist design featuring a rifle, shovel and pen. There is a watermark of a zebu head. This design dates back to 1983, but notes with a vertical serial number and bearing this signature (Gouverneur Blandin Razafimanjato) were not introduced until 1988.
