Madagascar

(Les Îles de l'Océan Indien [The Islands of the Indian Ocean])
Éditions Jean-Claude Nourault (c.1979).
Hardcover Book with Dust Jacket

A book of photographs of Madagascar. This volume contains 163 colour images, mostly taken by Jean-Claude Nourault, accompanied by text in French (by Paul Ginther) and English (translated by Sheila Ribaud). There are brief sections on the history, geography, agriculture, ethnic groups, etc., but for the most part this work is pictorial. Printed on high quality, heavy duty paper.

Poem by Paul Ginther, from Pages 170-171 (English / French)

And thus she lives, remote from the world
This Great Island of Madagascar
Little known and yet well-loved
She floats alone
Far from the land masses
And seeks to be different from the rest.
Will she remain so for long?
May all those who have trod her red soil
And breathed her perfume
Find again, in our pictures here
New reason never to forget...

l'oublier...
