The SEOF's mission is the development and promotion of the study and knowledge of birds, in all aspects of their biology but especially in the fields. It co-ordinates and collates the work undertaken by amateurs and local ornithological groups, and assist researchers and academics in publishing their work in the quarterly journal "ALAUDA". Beside original papers, the journal also publishes book reviews, the proceedings of regional and international meetings, and list of all the works pertaining the French avifauna, published world-wide. At the same time SEOF produces or supports ornithological publications and discs to further the knowledge of the avifauna of France and tropical regions.
