On the reverse is a stamp comemmorating the UNESCO Conference on the Development of Higher Education in Africa, 3-12 September 1962, which was issued on 3 September 1962 to coincide with the opening of that event (Michel catalogue code: MG 484; Yvert et Tellier catalogue code: MG 371; Stamp Number catalogue code: MG 333). The postmark is dated 9 September 1962 from Ivato, and incorporates the words 'Journée des Bases Aériennes' (Air Bases Day).
