Illegal Logging in Marojejy

10 April 2009

In the current semi-lawless political climate, illegal logging in Madagascar is on the rise, as evidenced by these recent images from near Marojejy National Park where the problem is worst. At least ten teams of loggers are known to be causing irreparable damage by systematically plundering precious rosewood from the "protected" area, thus far with no intervention from the authorities despite promises by the new government at a ministerial level to tackle the problem.
